Hira Charitable Trust (HCT) came into existence at Mayyil in the year 2001 with a noble vision of bringing quality education to the people of Mayyil and its surrounding regions. At a time when educational facilities were limited and literacy levels were comparatively low, a group of committed philanthropists recognized education as the true guiding light of social progress. United by this belief, they joined hands to establish Hira Charitable Trust with the mission of extending accessible, affordable, and meaningful education to the general public, with special emphasis on the weak and marginalized sections of society.
The core objectives of the Trust include providing value-based higher education, particularly in management studies; expanding educational opportunities for the underprivileged; and supporting the poor and downtrodden in building dignified and self-reliant lives. Translating this vision into action, the Trust established its first institution, the Institute of Technology Mayyil, Kannur, in 2002 on a lush green and picturesque campus. The institution initially offered MBA and MCA programmes recognized by Government of Kerala, approved by AICTE, affiliated with Kannur University. Though the MCA programme was discontinued in 2004 due to technical reasons, the MBA programme, launched in 2002, has since flourished with 22 successful batches of graduates who are today contributing across diverse professional fields.
In response to the growing academic aspirations of the region, the Trust further expanded its educational mission by establishing a Degree College in 2004 on a campus adjacent to the MBA college. The Trust also runs a CBSE syllabus English Medium Public School, which, in fact, was the first educational venture of HCT, laying the foundation for the group of institutions that followed. Today, these institutions together stand as vibrant centres of learning, character building, and career development.
Beyond formal education, Hira Charitable Trust has been actively engaged in a wide range of humanitarian and philanthropic initiatives aimed at uplifting the weaker sections of society. These include support through educational loans, endowments, free education schemes, and distribution of learning materials to needy students, reaffirming the Trust’s deep commitment to social responsibility and inclusive growth.
From a small group of dedicated founders in 2001, the Trust has steadily grown into a strong organization with 48 members and an Executive Council of 11 members. The Trust has been guided by dynamic leadership over the years. Sri. M. P. A. Rahim, a young and vibrant political leader, served as an early Chairman until 2007, followed by Er. K. T. Sharafuddin, who further strengthened and expanded the Trust’s activities. In 2013, Prof. Muneer K. K., an eminent educationist, assumed charge as Chairman and steered the institutions towards academic consolidation and progress. Since 2025, Mr. P. P. Siddique, a noted businessman from Mayyil, has been serving as Chairman, working with renewed vision and energy to elevate the Trust’s activities to the next level.
Rooted in service and inspired by progress, Hira Charitable Trust, Mayyil continues its journey of transforming lives through education, empowerment, and enduring social commitment.
